Description
The ASL Sign for Interpreter is often glossed as INTERPRET+ PERSON. This talk will explore how our identities as individuals can impact on our work as interpreters. From our background as either first or second language learners to our interactions with Deaf people and the wider community, the fact that we are involved in communicative interaction cannot be separated from who we are as people. While we need to maintain appropriate professional boundaries, we cannot lose sight of the fact that who we are can influence how we work and our relations with the people with which we work.
